Good Evening:

I'm searching for a load for the 7 STW using 140 gr Sierra Pro Hunters. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hipster:

Thanks for the reply. I tried the Sierra site on line, but they offered no recipes.

I have both I and H 4350 and 7828.

Best,

Bob

7828 will be great with 140's......if you go any heavier with bullet weight you must use even slower burning powders to get best velocity.

You could also try N560 or RE-22 with the 140's.

H4831SC works great for me with 140gr Noslers. Both Ballistic Tip and Partitions.

Thanks guys. I spoke to the techs at Sierra today, and they recommended the usual magnum suspects; RL 22, 7828, H 1000,et al. I was planning om I4350, but he cautioned me against that. He also suggested an OAL of 3.625.

Bob

Bob,

I4350 is way too fast. H1000 won't give you the velocity as it is a single based powder, substitute RE-25 and that will give you the speed................

I shoot 80.0grs of Winchester WXR with a Winchester Magnum Large Rifle primer.I get a chronographed velocities of 3470fps with 139-140gr bullets,3450fps with 150gr. bullets, with no high pressure signs out of my Rem. Sendero rifle with a 26" barrel.I'm getting 1/2" or less groups with this load.Reloader-22 should also give you around the same velocities. They both are double based powders, both made in Sweden, maybe from the same plant,I don't know.I haven't tried the Reloader-22 yet to see if I can get the same performance, but that is surely on my to do list in the future.I also have worked up good loads with IMR-7828.81.0grs gives me 3300fps,150gr bullets,1/2" groups, also 82.0 grs. of H-1000,gives me 3270fps,150gr. bullets,1/2" groups.

Thanks to all for your valuable input.

I'll go out and see what I can fnd for powder today.

I live in MA, and many of the gun shops don't carry powder due to local restrictions put forth by fire depts.

CT, which is not far, seems to have fewer storage regs.

Best,

Bob
