Barrel length for a .300 H&H Magnum?
What do you find to be the minimum barrel length for a .300 H&H Magnum, and still be able to keep it up to it's potential velocity?

24"

25"

26"

Other?

Thanks,

Sam

I think for any magnum round to achieve it's max. potential it needs to have a min. of 24" of bbl. That's why Ruger #1s are a great paltform for loudenboomers, even w/ a 26" bbl. they are shorter than 22" bbl. bolt guns.

I believe one chooses the cartridge for the power characteristics he wants and the barrel length for the handling characterists he prefers.

If I liked a 22" barrel my .375 H&H would sport one. Judicious handloads can easily make up the difference.

24" minimum, 26" much better, anything over 26, bull barrel Wimbledon Cup target rifles only!
