.223 Rem. and Hodgdon BL C-2 Loads?
Powder weights for Hodgdon BL-C2?

55 gr. Winchester bullets. Mixed brass, Federal 205 small rifle primers. Looking for a basic "plinking" load. Nothing fancy.

Hodgdon shows 27.5 gr. on both their container and website. Also, the Hodgdon Data Manual # 26 (1994) lists 27.5 gr. 3313 fps in a 24" bbl. 48,500 cup.

I've been using Hodgdon 335 and Varget. I don't like the way Varget meters, but it produces good match grade loads for my Rem. 700 and Sierra 69 gr. match bullets.

So, what about BL-C2 and 55 gr. bullets in "mass produced" reloads. Any observations?

Thanks.

Powderburns,

Thats pretty much the load I use in my Ruger
Allweather .223 along with Speer SP's. Groups
around 3/4" if I do my part and works well on both foxes and roe deer.

I've been using WC-846, which is sold as "the military/bulk" version of BLC-2. I find it to work well in .223, .308 and with the lighter bullets for 30-06.

You can purchase Mil-Surp powders and such from Steve or Dan at HiTech Ammunition;

If everyone thought like me, I'd be a damn fool to think any differently!

If I'm not mistaken Winchester (or OLIN, or whoever makes their powder) manufactures the WC powders for the US GOV. But they are not canister grade, so either you must use load data from a reliable source or start realy low on the charge.
For $80 I got 16lbs of WC872 (equivilant to H870 or AA8700) which is used in 50cl and 20mm Vulcan cannon.

Here are a couple of sites that sell surplus.

Ball c 2 is a good powder and I get good accuracy with it..It does have a louder blast and a ball of fire at the muzzle, but I have yet to find any powder that compares to H335 in the 223...H322 is a very accurate powder also..but velocity is a might low.
