Primer question
How much difference between CCI Small Rifles Magnum primers and Federal 205M primers.

I havent found any Federals yet and the load I'm looking at call for F205M.

I don`t think you`ll see much difference. The adage every rifle is a rule unto its self holds true though.....

I wouldn't think there would be much difference since both are magnum primers.

Guys: I thought the 205M primer was a "MATCH" primer NOT a magnum primer.

The 205M is a MATCH not a magnum primer.

True, although you may find performance with the CCI 450 to be equal to, just hotter than, or just cooler than the 205M. You won't know until you try, and even then are unlikely to discern a difference. Load the CCIs and see how they shoot. It won't be a problem.

The words "match" and "magnum" on a box of primers relate more closely to their pricing than to their performance.

Primers are the last calculation in my load development. Not to say primer manufacture, type, or lot number is totally insignificant, it’s just the last component.

Thanks fellows.

I guess I'll start my load development with the CCI and see what happens.

Found this data.

Federal 215 Hotter
WLRM
CCI 250
Rem 9-1/2 M
WLR
Fed 210
CCI BR2
CCI 200
Rem 9-1/2 Cooler

The primer should always be the starter of the explosion and not a significant factor in the overall pressure.

Primers are a part of the equation. Make them as small a part of the equation as possible.

Good Luck finding 205M primers. Three of my wholesalers are flat out of Federal and Remington primers.
