270 Win./ powder for reduced loads
I want to load a 150g SP to about 2500fps in my .270. Several manuals list such loads but say nothing about "loading density". Is there a particular power that has more "bulk" to more nearly fill the case? Thanks...

Ol` JoeI`d look at H1000 as a possibility. You`ll be pressed to find a powder that will fill the case much more and give velocities in the range you`re looking for.

olarmyJon: here are a couple of quotes from another forum regarding reduced loads in the 270.
""accuracy load" for the 270 Winchester using a 130 grain bullet to be 43.5 grains of IMR4064 powder which yields 2724 fps with 39,000 C.U.P.
The 4064 load suggested sounds good, but I have also had good luck with around 42 grains of IMR4895 and a 130-grain Hornady Spire Point. It not only takes deer neatly, but recoils gently and leaves lots of wild turkey left over if there happens to be a rifle season open in the fall"
On a whim, and because I happened to have all the components on my bench, I tried the first combination. It produces one hole groups and very low recoil.
I know you asked about 150gr bullets but I see no reason why 4895 and 4064 wouldn't work with them also.
Thanks for the comments. I'll take a look at H1000.
Olarmy...the 130g loads you posted are a couple hundred fps faster than I want but I'll bet subsituting 150g for 130g will bring them down to around the 2500fps I'm looking for.
Thanks...

2ndtimerIf you are looking for low recoil loads, check out
these . I have tried the youth loads in my .270WSM and they are very mild and reasonably accurate, 3 shots into less than 2 inches at 100 yards. I believe you could also try these loads with heavier bullets, as the pressures they show are very mild. Drop Hodgdon a line and see if they can offer any additional guidance.
I use H 380 to load the 270 down to the 2500 to 2600 fps range. 44 grains will give you 2600 fps with a 140 or 150 grain bullet.
About 42 to 42.5 will be good for 2500.
I use H 380 due to the accuracy that it has given me over other powders that I have tested in that velocity range.
Primers are just large rifle primers.
cheers and good shooting
