<holtz>.348 MAX PRESSURE??
Does anyone know SAAMI's max pressure (PSI) for the .348? I have three varying figures from what I would consider three reliable sources. A major bullet mfg. says 42,000 PSI (53,700 CUP), Waters' Pet Loads at 44,000 PSI, and QLoad for 46,412 PSI. Not a huge difference, but..........

<Bill Tompkins>Steve,
The numbers we work with are from 44,000 psi to 46,000 psi. The reason being is that we are not using the .348 as .348, merely using the brass to make other cartridges. Based on case capacity this is a usable range. A lot of the variations stem from the fact that most of the older pressure ratings were done in c.u.p. and there is no direct translation from one to another.

AtkinsonIf I had a nice old Winchester M-71 in 348 cal. I'd load that tapered case to around 40,000 PSI or at factory velocity...Thoes guns arn't designed to take a pounding and you can develope head space in nothing flat...It kills by bullet mass and the small amount of extra velocity means nothing anyway, why tear up a nice old gun....
