Haven't tried it in a .308, but my .223s all like it with 50 and 55 grain bullets.

It's a great powder in 308 with 168's. I use in in 223 for 77 & 80gr bullets. The another 2 powders that will also work well in both are RL-15 and WW-748. I tend to use WW-748 for higher volumn shooting since it meters better than the other two.

For 223,
only as long as it does not bother you that you cannot fit the max charge in the case with some bullets.

Other than that ( doesn't bother me a bit... ) works great.

H4895 is good too.

No need to buy VARGET in 1 lb cans if you load 222Mag, 223, 243, 243AI, 6mm, 25-06(there are better choices for this one but it will work) 260, 7mm08, 7mmMag(same note as 25-06) and 300SAUM!!!! Buy it in 8 lb containers!!! Absolutely the most useful powder I have seen in 30 years of messing with reloading!!! As far as your 223 goes, you can probably skip the measureing and just put the VARGET in a margarine tub, dip the case in it, wipe it flush with your finger and shoot 40 grain VMax's with accuracy that will astound you!! The 308 family of cases seems to thrive on this powder!!!! Maybe you ought to check your books before trying my recipe in the 223 but I'm betting it will work!!! IMR 3031 was the choice in a bunch of stuff as far as accuracy was concerned until VARGET came along!! Try it! You'll love it!!! GHD

I've used it in my .308 and have had such great accuracy that I have not had to try anything else. I've heard and read that it is great in the .223 also.

Varget would be a fine powder for both the .308 and .223

I don't own a .223 but use Varget in my .308Win. with Sierra 168gr. HPBT Match bullets, and it's my most accurate powder. I find Varget excellent in a bunch of different calibers. Best wishes.

i use in my 6.5-08 exclusively now. turned my buddy on to it for his .308 and now that is all he uses. great for the 08 family, have heard that it works well with .22-250.

Varget is made here in Australia by ADI Ltd. Here it is AR2208, I use it in my Ruger 22-250 & my 6.5 x 55 Swedish and get great results. I have friends that use it in 223's and 308's who won't use anything else.

I usually have a bowl of Varget in the morning to get me going! Gret powder for .308 and .223. Though H4895 in .223 will run a little faster, but might not be as accurate in a particular gun. Most of the time Varget and H4895 compete in my load development.

Varget is a most useful propellant. It is effective in my 223, 243, 708, and 300wsm with various bullets. In 223, I have enjoyed it with 69grMK's. The only knock with 223, if it is one, is it fills the case all the way to the top so one must be careful with bullet seating.

That will give you 26 - 26.5gr of Varget. That will work well with bullets up to 55gr (a max load with 55gr).
That's one of my favorite 52gr loads.
