<GAHUNTER>RWS 404 factory loads
I have just bought two boxes of RWS 404 Jeffery ammo. My gunsmith wants a few rounds of factory loaded ammo in order to check his headspacing, magazine capacity, feeding, etc., in the current rifle he is building for me.
My question is the case length of the factory loaded ammo seems a little short of what the books say the trim-to length should be for the 404. My RWS brass (loaded) mics 2.845, which is .020 of an inch shorter than the book says it should be.
I realize that the factory rounds are crimped into the cannalure, but .020 seems like more than can be explained by the crimp alone. Just want to make sure that it's ok for me to send these rounds for the intended purposes of the gunsmith.
I'm sure it's something that I shouldn't worry about, but I want to make sure that everything is done right on this rifle.

AtkinsonThe main thing that gunsmith needs to do is be sure the chamber/throat matches the magazine..and both are set up for the crimp in the cannalure...a common mistake of gunsmiths that build mostly smaller rifles.

<GAHUNTER>While we're on this subject, what's the story on RWS? Are they going out of the big bore business? How come I can't find their brass to reload?
Just wondering.
