Doublegun.30 cal bullet recommendations
Looking for recommendations for a good all-around .30 cal bullet for a .300 H&H. I like to use round nose bullets. They would be used for elk and caribou.

Chuck WhiteIf I were to use the 300 H&H for elk & caribou, I'd use 165 grain boat tail spire points!
No real need to use the round nose!

buckshotHeck, I'd be using Nosler's 180 grain protected point partition and never look back.

30378Go with the Nosler partition spire point. Forget the idea of round nose bullets.

vapodogHornady makes a couple good round nosed bullets in 30 cal One is 180 grains and the other 220 grains. The 300 H&H can move them 2,900 and 2,600 '/sec respectively.
Both will tip over elk with ease.
That said...I agree with other replys.....find a good 180-200 grain spitzer.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything just curious. What advantage is there in using a round nose bullet?

You guys are going to kill me for this one - I just like the way that old cartridge looks when topped with a round nose bullet. Yes, really bad criteria for chosing a bullet, but...
I figure I'll have a couple of different loads - one for elk, caribou and plains game and one for white tails here in Michigan.
