270 NEF Handi Rifle
Hello! I recently purchased a NEF Handi rifle in 270 Win. I have only loaded for my 7mmRem in the past. I bought this gun as just a back up kick around gun. Is there a certain bullet out there that I should break in the barrel with? Or is it even necessary to break in the barrel? Also I know there is a lot of fans for the 270 out there. Any suggestions on powder choices? I currently load RL22 for my 7 and I wonder if I can stay consistant with that? Thanks!

Buckmstr,

H4831SC is "hard to beat" in the 270 win. Try some 140 Grn NBTs at around 2900 fps, you should get great accuracy w/ that load. The 150 HDY ILSPs are a great bullet in the 270 win w/ H4831 as well.

The Handi-Rifles have a long Throat on them so you might want to seat the bullets out a little longer than usual.

Hope This Helps.

Good Luck!

A 140 Nosler Ballistic tip and some IMR 4350 powder should get you well under 1 MOA . Start out around 52 grains and work up from there.Of course check your reloading manuals to make sure this is not over maximum. My .270 used to shoot under 1/2" MOA with this approximate load. I think I ended up somewhere around 53.5 if my memory serves me right.

Hornady BTSP in 140gr with 53.2gr IMR 4350/WLR primers runs about 2900fps and 3 shots under 1 MOA,in my 270 mtn rifle.Max load in the 1980 Hornady manual I use.

RL22 will work good in the 270 with 130 gr. or heavier bullets, probably no need to change.
