mranchQuestion For "Quick Load " Users
I'm new at using Quick Load and have a question about adding cartridge data. I've entered all the requested data for my .308 Bellm and when I calulate a load with a given powder I always come up short of what the velocities should be by about 125fps. Is this as good as it gets, or did I maybe not enter the data correctly?
Thanks,
Bob

steve505Bob,
For a new user of quickload, I would say you are doing good, particularly since you had to add a cartridge not in quickload. 5% on velocity is reasonable for any powder. If you are consistantly low over many different powders, then the effective case capacity might be to large in quickload. I quickly ran IMR4895 for 150g HYD, 14" barrel, 80.0% load density, and was only 30fps low.
good luck,
steve

Bob257The velocity that Quick Load gives me have been pretty close to what the chronograph reads. You say about the velocity it "should" get. Have you chronographed them?

I find quickLOAD to be a little optimistic across the board.

mranchYep, I chronographed one load at 2509fps and Quick Load says 2431 which is 78fps difference, closer then the next one. 2574 actual vel. and Quick Load is 2446, for a difference of 128fps.
I was thinking that maybe I entered the .308 Bellm Data wrong into Quick Load. I might reenter it and see if things change.
Thanks for the responses!
Bob
