diesel_dude6.5X55
Just picked up a 6.5X55. Any suggestions on bullet weights/styles and powders that work for this caliber?

Bobby TomekThe 140s give the best hunting performance, and Re-22 gives top velocities and accuracy -- so a combination of the two is a match made in heaven.

Bobby TomekBy the way, unless you after something really large such as moose, you don't need a premium bullet. Those long, slender 140 grainers such as the Hornady Spire Point, Sierra BT GameKing and Speer Hot Core spitzer have high SDs, penetrate extremely well and are all you need for any medium game hunting.
SO what kind of 6.5x55 did you get?

<green 788>Sierra 142 grain Matchking, and 46.3 grains of RL22...

This load works well in all Swedes I'm familiar with.
You can sub a 140 grain spitzer soft point if you're after a hunting load, and I've even used the 46.3 grain RL22 charge with 160 RN Sierras with excellent results.

BiathlonmanI've yet to find a really bad powder or bullet combo. If you are looking for one weight bullet the 140 is propbably the key. Reloader 22 is a good choice, but I have also heard good things about 15 and 19. Seating close to the lands can be a real challenge, depends on your throat, but most run reeeaaaalll long!
Good luck and let us know if you have any specific questions.

<green 788>Steve,
It's a 300 yard target... However, believe it or not, the group was fired from the prone position, over sandbags, using the Swede M96's issue iron sights.
I squared the sight picture with the target board, and just happened to squeeze those shots that are touching off just right. The group is well under MOA, even with the lateral flyers.
