Failsafe Performance on Game?
One of my rifles absolutely adores this bullet from an accuracy standpoint. I have never used this bullet on game. Can you share some experiences with this slug? Thanx

I took a bull moose last september with the 300 grn failsafe from a 375H&H handloaded and chronographed at 2530 FPS. The moose was estimated at 1300 lbs and was taken at 150 yards on about a 45 angle. Full penetration through mid body (liver Lungs)with a rib hit goin in and another on the way out. The moose dropped on the shot and apparently never moved since his horns were stuck in the
ground with no struggle movement in the ground. Entrance and exit hole was
similar in size and meat loss was neglible. The rifle I used was a new Browning A
Bolt with the Boss system.

Thank you for the response. My only concern, and everyone else's that I talked to on other boards, is the possibility of lack of expansion.
Hope they work.....I can't wait to use them.

I have used both FS bullets (Winchester, and Combined Technology). The original one had a black coating (Lubalox?), while the new one has a gray-color coating that looks and feels like "Moly."

A few years back I shot a moose on the shoulders. It was 200 yards out, and the 230-grain FS broke both shoulder bones and then exited. I have had several one-shot kill just like that with the FS, even when shooting through the lungs/heart. I prefer the black coating, but I don't think it is available that way anymore. This bullet is designed to penetrate, and to provide some expansion, but not as much as a TB or some other bullets.

The front of the bullet folds back over itself (peels back), perhaps one-third of its length. My reasons for using it are: Penetration, ability to break heavy bone if needed, and just enough expansion to do its work. I use a .338 Magnum, and have only recovered one FS from moose. I am very happy with this bullet, but this year I will be using 250-grain NOS Partition bullets just to see how my .338 works with them. So far it seems to be faster than the data found in my reloading manual, so it should provide a mighty punch. I was pleasantly surprised at the range when I chronograph'ed my hand loads.
