steve4102Remington Brass Out of Specs??
I purchased some 300WSM Remington brass from Midway. Thought it might be better than the Win Brass I have been getting lately.
The case head just didn't look right to me, so I measured it up. The head of the Remington Brass is .527in. The correct size is .535in. I thought maybe Remington use the head dimensions from their 300SAUM, wrong, the 300SAUM measures .534in.
What's up with Remington and this brass?? Should I shoot it or send it back to Midway??

BuliwyfSend the brass back to Midway for an exchange for Norma .300 WSM brass.

DwightI ordered some Norma 300SAUM just to see the difference and it measured perfectly so the problem lies in Remingtons processes some where. I have never had a problem with Rem brass before so since your problem is with the 300WSM then the problem may lie in the rebated rim design and Remingtons processes.

vanRemington makes its brass like that so,it has the capability of not having problems with bolt faces,as different guns, have different bolt face dim. And .008" isn,t nothing, when divided by 2=.004" clear space on each side of the case base to the bolt. That not even the thickness of a newspaper. Its no big deal. van

DwightIt is a problem. The rim slips out of the extractor before being ejected and falls on the follower.

asdfDwight, a rim diameter .008" under nominal is within SAAMI's usual specs. (I don't have a drawing for the 300 WSM, but .008" is used in all the other cartridges I checked.) It may be your rifle is overly picky.

DwightThanks for checking. The Rem brass in 300SAUM that I have is either .006 or .007 smaller than design so it falls into the okay range but it doesn't work and maybe the rifle is picky. The Norma brass that I received today is only .002 smaller than design and very nice looking brass at that. Not a single dinged up mouth.
The Norma brass is 16gr heavier than the Rem brass also. Wonder if the weight is in the head or the walls.
