Jay Gorski223Rem, AR15, 55gr. FMJ?
Hello, What powder would some of you fellas use with this combo for targets, coyote hunting, etc.etc. AR15, 1 in 7" twist, 20"bbl. 55gr.FMJ, Did try some H335 and H322 yesterday, would like to stick with small grain extruded type powders, they seem to be cleaner burning than 'ball' powders. Thanks for your input, Jay

Major CaliberH-335 is what I normally use, but H-4198 works good.

archer4Jay,
I have had good success using Varget with 55, 69, 77, and 80 grain bullets out of my 1:8 twist Bushmaster.

dentonI vote for Varget.
I tried H322, but it does not fill the case very full, and I was not getting consistent MV's.
AA2015 works well, too. But Varget meters better.

Jay GorskiThanks, Guys, will try some H4895 and Varget, they're very close in burn rate and seem to work equally well in other cartridges like 6mmRem. too. Jay

EddieThe 55 grainer is pretty short for a 1:7 twist. Load a few and see how well they stabilize. The FMJs are probably lead base so I don't think you'll get varmit grade accuracy, but you never know. I use 69s in my 1:8 AR. With N135 I get sub-MOA. N133 works well with the 52s in my 1:12 VS.
HTH,
Eddie

Jay GorskiEddie, The 55s stabilize just fine, son shot a 5 shot group of 3.25" from the kneeling position(opens)@100yds, nice little holes. Will mount a scope and check for ultimate accuracy when range opens up at the end of the month, i'm hoping for at least 2" groups, course I can hope for better than too, never know. Jay

KevinNYYou're selling yourself and the rifle short with 55gr FMJ's. Almost ANY other commercial bullet will do better, if economy is an issue try thr bulk Win. or Rem. bullets that some mail order houses have.
