Re: proper dies for military 8mm
Thanks for the replies. I am surprised that more people aren't concerned with this. There have been several discussions on the Parallax Forum about which headspace gauge to use: the old vs. the new, no-go vs. field vs. European field, but no one seems to be concerned about the type of reloading dies; it seems to me that it amounts to the same thing: matching the ammo to the chamber. At least, since I will be reloading with new brass, discrepancies should cause fewer problems than with old brass. I am a little leary about using the old military ammo, especially after hearing on this forum about deteriorated brass and powder. I will probably go with the Lee dies and use their collet neck die; it seems to have gotten good reviews. If all of my 8mm's seem to have about the same chamber dimensions, I may get a custom Lee full length die for use with all of them.
Thanks again, Brady

Suit yourself, Brady, but I don't think you'll be able to improve on the standard dies. These dimensions aren't THAT critical.

RCBS and several other, GOOD die makers will also make a sizing die from fired cases you send them. This is how wildcatters get their sizing dies for odd-shaped cases!
