7mm 140gr XLC
Has anyone had any experiances with this bullet?
I am planning to shoot it in a 7-08 with a 22" gain twist barrel.

I use them and 140 gr "fail-safes" almost exclusively in my 7mm Mag. They were a little tough to get to group, but I overcame them and find they work pretty well. I use them for hill Country deer(whitetails, axis etc), Aoudads and whatever weird stuff has escaped and started to breed out there.

A buddy of mine uses the non coated 140's at 3195 fps out of his 7 stw. (he has a slow 24" barrel)
He's shot tons of carribou and a couple of moose with no problems at all. No animal has ever got away. Once he shot a carribou and it went down so fast into a little valley that when the gun came back down from recoil he thought he missed. He took aim again and this time it worked. You should have seen the look on his face when we came over the ridge and had 2 cows (for camp meat between 3 guys on a five day hunt)!!! Lucky for him he was a ak resident and could shoot up to 5 in that area. We have not let him forget his "success" when sipping beer.

I use it in both a 7mag and a 280. Using a Lyman VLD chamferer, and RL19, max loads seem to work best. Kills mulies and elk quite nicely. HTH, Dutch.

Its good to hear that they work well. I have great hopes. 3200fps from a 140gr 7STW sounds EXCESSIVELY SLOW!
I would anticipate about 3000fps from the 140gr coated bullet and 7-08 gain twist barrel.
Has anyone ever recovered an x-bullet?
Pics?

I believe the Barnes bullet catalog (brochure format) has a nice photo of a 140gr X bullet recovered from an elk. Impressive! If I can find mine I will scan it for you. Saeed might have some photos as well but of the 270 bore. He favors the Xs as well which says alot! MtnHtr
