30-06 FPS load
I was telling some friends about a load I used to use. They want to try it. It consisted of a 165 Gr. Nosler partition BT and a 110 gr. (?) compressed load of (?) powder. It was good for 3,000 fps at the muzzle and was very flat shooting. Can anyone fill in the blanks?

Thanks

Boy did I muck that up. It was 110% compressed load of 64 grains. RL 22.

RL26 will give highest velocity. I get between
3008 and 3025 fps in my 270.

A 165-grain bullet out of a 30-06 is best served with 4350, 414, VV N-150, etc. 2,900 fps is a normally accurate and quite effective load. You gain nothing useful from trying to drive the bullet faster than 3,000 fps.

Good luck, and happy hunting.

This is what I get with my Pac-Nor barreled 30-06 with a 168gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.Loads where 58.0grs of Accurate 4350 and 59.5grs of Ramshot Hunter.

I agree with Lawndart. I was loading to a little
over 3000fps with 165gr Federal Trophy Bonded
Tipped and 165gr Accubonds. 6.5lb to 7.0lb
rifle was Kicking the hell out of me. Heavier
7mm Mag was more pleasant to shoot. Dropping
back to 2925fps with RL16, or 150gr Barnes TTSX
with same powder. Some tests I have seen show
that the 150gr Barnes out penetrate the 165gr
Accubonds and the some of the heavier Barnes TTSX bullets. The 150gr TTSX shot real well in my Weatherby Mark 5

I agree, nothing better in 30-06 than any 4350 with 165 grain bullet..
