In most magazines - Handloader, Rifle, Shooting Times, Guns & Ammo, etc., etc. Is there much of anything to be found that hasn't been heard 100 times before?

I have old "Rifle Magazines back to the 70s. There was much wildcat development, trigger work, technical smithing, etc. Now, excepting the introduction of a new WSM/WSSM, 204, or ultra something, it is the 136th article on the 1911, the 234th article on the .270 & the 573rd article on the barrel lengths.

There is a distinct lack of original thinking! There is little in the way of technical info. Even just new writers, perhaps like some of us, might add at least a new dimension. It certainly couldnt' hurt.

There isn't a single shooting, gun or reloading magazine on the market today that is nothing more than a mirror image of manufacturers' press releases and a collection of advertisements.

I prefer Magnum from South Africa. It's one of the few gun magazines that is not just a big advertisement for the latest and greatest.

I agree also with all of this. I had subscriptions o shooting times, handloader, guns/ammo, but found myself simpling skimming over them on the can. Nothing gleened from them at all. A couple writers I liked - Craig Boddington, and I used to like Rick Jamison. But I hated the gun reviews - never a gun, or product that they didnt like

When HANDLOADERR, and later RIFLE came out,quite a few of the articles came from people like us, those that the current editors consider the stupid, dumb and unwashed. (Whew! Did I just say that? ) Truth of the matter, I have one aquaintance that I know had his writings published in HANDLOADER. Now that they have all these "big name" writers on the staff, well, us dummies don't count for anything but paying for the subscriptions.
Now, rather than cater to the crowd that made them, they are trying to become Guns & Ammo wannabes. Cater to the real dummies and sell more subscriptions.
The NRA had a poll in the Rifleman as to which gun rag after the Rifleman did you like best. Would you believe it was Guns & Ammo. Talk about dumbing down the shooters.
I don't know. maybe I shouldn't be so hard on them. After all, they're a business, and like any business, they're in business to make money. Still, I sure hate it when the screw up what were the two best gun rags out there.
