Midsouth "varmint nightmare extreme" bullets
Anyone ever use these bullets? I've recently gotten into varmint hunting and these seem like a great deal but do they shoot worth a hoot?

Alternately, what are some of the .223" 50 or 55 grain bullets you've found to be best for use in the .223 Rem?

Currently I'm using the Hornady 50 grain SPSX and having good results, a bit better than the 50 grain Ballistic tips.

Roll EyesI've been big on Varmint Nite Mare bullets for some time , as they do shoot.

When they advertised the Varmint Nite Mare Extreme I order 2,000 but when they arrived the box did not have extreme on it and the bullets looked identical the what I have been using. Suppose I could call and find out what the difference is. coffeeroger

Thanks, it's good to hear that they shoot. Any idea who makes these for them?

EekerI gave you a bum scoope. homer

I just got off the phone with Mid South. The last order I received from them had been on back order for some time when they ran out of the Varmint Nite Mares. When there stock was replenished that's what they sent.

The Extreme is different and can easily be identified from the absence of the cannalure. By the way I have a back order into them for the extremes and they also are out of stock at this time. beerroger

I spoke with their customer service people about the difference a few weeks ago...

I was told that the Nightmares, are bulk order factory seconds " from a major Manufacturer"..

Extremes have greater 'QC guarantee' by the Manufacturer.. which means they are not factory seconds...

the Manufacturer is Hornady...

The extremes are a penny more a round than the nightmares..

Accuracy as quoted on a couple of other boards have been superb..

Seafire,

Thanks for the imput. Is the accuracy you refer to for the "extremes" or the regulars? Or perhaps both?

I've been unable to shoot the factory "firsts" any better than the "almost extremes with the tarnish garnish", or the new "extremes" with the extra qc. I give up! Even match prepping the cases and a dab of lug grease doesn't help. The odd NC varmint doesn't seem to care either. rotflmo ned

Hornady blems shoot as well for me as other Hornaday, Sierra, Berger, ect. bullets.

The ones I have tested:

45 CAL .451 DIA 250GR HIGH PERFORMANCE HOLLOW POINT 2 XTP

7MM .284 DIA 162GR BIG GAME POLY CARB TIP SST super shock polycarbonate
tip with interbond waste crimp and thick jacket for big game

7MM .284 DIA 175GR SPIRE POINT

25CAL .257DIA 100GR SOFT POINT

.224" 35 gr Vmax

I can't find anything wrong with them, other than a .224 batch weighs 33 gr when they should weigh 35 gr.
