wildfowlFederal Primers
I am at a loss!
I developed loads with Federal Gold Metal Match Large Magnum Rifle primers and can't find them anymore.
Does ANYONE know where I can find these critters? The item number is GM215M.
Thanks in advance, wildfowl@gmail.com

crashcarruthersThe price is CRAZY, but try here:
http://www.sinclairintl.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?catego...item=215M&type=storeThey show to have them in stock, but at over $40/thousand it isn't quite right.

HeatYou're not the only one having a hard time finding them. I load two cartridges with the 215M and one with the 210M. Both are hard to find. I stop by 3 stores that are nearby and whenever I see them I pick up a few hundred. Right now I have about 500 of each but can find the standard 210 and 215 primers almost anytime. Worse case scenario is I use the standard primers whem I'm out of the match primers. I really haven't noticed a difference but I'm sure the match primers are a bit more consistent.

fredj338I have found that the RP 9 1/2M is very reliable substitue for the 215M. Try a 100, just back off 1/2gr & work back up.

Both primers are made using the same process. The difference is in the people; the more experienced and skilled people are used on the
Match production line. This approach is more hopeful than deterministic in reducing variation.

RustyI guess I had better lock up the 5000 Gold Metal I have at the house? How many do you need?
I placed a standing order with Graf & Son. It sat there until they could fill it. That's the way I would do it.

I could get by with a couple hundred.
I have tried EVERY supply house I could find, but apparantly Federal is selling all of these to the Gov't because of the war effort and not producing them for the civilian market.
Maybe if Osama get's elected I could buy them again (choke, gag, puke!)

PM me about the primers. I'll send you an email if you leave an address.

Not quite complete. Here is what CCI says:
"That’s why we make CCI Benchrest primers. Only our most experienced skilled personnel put the priming mix in the cups, so you get the same flame, shot after shot. We also use specially selected cups and anvils for added consistency."So it is a combination of skilled assembly and higher quality control of the components.

I did this recently in a 257 Weatherby Mag. The accuracy with the Rem. 9 1/2 Mag. primers was as good but I had to increase the powder charge by one or two grains to get an equivalent load.
Although I don't use Federal 215 primers, I do use their 210M's and 205M's. The are hard to find, but I did find Midway had some 205M's, so I bought a thousand last week. Luckily, my local store had some regular Federal 210's in stock, so I bought a thousand of them. I don't really think there's enough difference between the Match and regular primers to worry about for hunting accuracy. The design is the same, the only difference is in assembly and inspection.
Don
I just found 5000 Fed 215, not match.
