Tommy T,

Since Hogdon says 51 Max at over 50K cup and a velocity of 2975, I'd say that's plenty Max and anything more could lead to problems in some rifles. You may (and should) start out at 48-49 tops because every rifle feels pressure in a different way. Anything over 2900 w/ a 150 is plenty quick and 50-100 more fps are not going to give you any noticeable difference in performance.

I've been getting great results w/ H4895 and 150 for the last few years. You might want to give it a whirl if your Varget doesn't pan out.

Good Luck

I agree, I have used Varget some with the Hornady 150 Spire and the Interbond. It did fine. However, like Reloader I have had super results with H4895. 48.0 grs. of H4895 under either the Spire or Interbond gives me 2900 or slightly better and under 1" groups from my Model 70.

H4895 is also great to have around for reduced loads. You may want to give it a try.

Good Luck,

The useful range I found was:
Varget From 41.0 grains to 53.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

However, I preferred:
N-204 From 55.0 grains to 59.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

I use 47 grains of Varget with the nosler 150s in my old FN 30/06. Very accurate and not a big kicker. Excellent whitetail load. 3 shots into a inch at 100 out of a pencil barrel. Good enough! FNMauser

Not at all. For deer, antelope, sheep, and anything else of about 300 pounds or less, 150s are ideal.

Moreover, some rifles give best accuracy with 150s.

the reason is that this rifle will be used in the UK, and will be used on FOXES - DEER Smiler

Tommy, I happen to use 50.5grs. Of Varget, CCI 200 primer, Rem. brass in my Model 70. 3 shots @300yds. go 2.145",(Best so far) velocity about 2900fps from a 22" bbl.

I'm waiting on an H-S Precision stock to see if the accuracy improves any, not that I need it, but will take it if it comes. Varget and RE15 are the powders I'd use for 150s in the '06, good choice on your part, IMHO. Jay

If you want to make an 06 sizzle then use H-414, it will beat any other powder in the velocity dept...

I beg to differ, Hodgdon manual get 2992fps with 414, Alliant gets 3005fps with RE15. And then there's H4350 @3068. Jay
