How much powder ?
How much powder (IMR 3031) pushing a Hdy 300gr bullet (HP)?

Which is the higher amount of powder you reloaded for a marlin 1895? I have found much different top loads depending the reloading table consulted...

Of course always speaking within safety pressure limits...

Thank you all in advance

For the 45-70, the Hornady 6th sets the limit to 40kcup for the 1895 Marlin load level, they list 56.9gr IMR3031 @ 1900fps as the max load for their 300gr HP. Hodgdon uses the same limit, the max load for the 300gr Sierra HP is 60gr of IMR3031 @ 2135fps, 37.1kcup.

On the other hand, Realguns lists the 350gr Hornady RN loaded with 58.6gr IMR3031 as a max load @ 2065fps.

Thank you gentlemen ...BTW, Smedley, its a sweeeet 45/70 Cool

Actually I live in a country (Argentina) where no proper powder nor ideal bullets can be found due to the political times we are living here .. so we have to get the best use of what we have the luck to find ... I am finishing my last can of 3031 so I do not want to spend much powder in tests ...

BTW, I have some 2400 which I am thinking to try in my rifle (a 1895 SS) ... I know that the reccomended loads vary from 24 grs to 41.5 grs ... anyone knows the aprox mv velocity I might achieve with the top load? (Rem 9 1/2 primers and a local bullet that weights 315 grs)

Just curious ...
