Dark HelmetWhich Powder to Try First (35Wh 225gr Accubond)
this off-season, one of my projects is to develop a load for my 35 Whelen using the new(ish) Nosler Accubond 225gr.
medium/heavy sporter contour 24" barrel...
suggestions? I use 4064 with the 250s I'm shooting now (and get 1/3-inch groups)...
powder with the most votes will be the first tried!

30378Yup, RL-15 is your brew for the Whelen.

900 SSI use Norma 203b for both 225 and 250 grain bullets and I'm not going to switch. I read that it is the same powder as Re15 but with less lot to lot variation.

Dark Helmetsounds like RL-15 it is... although the 203b is interesting...

About 56 grains of IMR 4064 should give good results.
; probably about 2550 fps.+. If you do, start a little lower and work up. Your individual rifle may handle more or less safely.

StoneybrokeThat max manual load of RL15 in my 24" tube will print 3/4" groups and speed is 2730 (+-9fps).

mad_jack02I'm getting very good results with H-380 in my 35 Whelen, with 225 gn AB's.

You're getting a tad better than I am but it's darn close. Nosler did their homework on this one! I sure wish I knew what the pressure is on that load.
RP case, 59 grains RL-15, Nosler Partition 225 grain, OAL of 3.240.....it's a fine load.

LabmanMy cousin has a Ruger #1 in 35 Whelan and I loaded some test rounds for him using IMR-4064 and 225 Gr. Nosler Partitions. It was the only load we tried. Groups of approx. .75 at 100 yds.
