My first try with the Magneto Speed. Setup on the Browning A-Bolt 22rf. Federal red box 711b

The strap took some fiddling with but it works without much setup.

The only way I got mine to work consistently was to use a narrow bicycle inner tube and securely wrap the device to the barrel. The strap that comes with it is pretty lame.

I got mine to work okay. Although, I do check it after every shot.

Interesting. I guess it does require you to shoot for velocity and then remove to shoot for accuracy. I think I will stay with the old way and shoot for accuracy and get velocity as a free extra.

at 50 ft with a 22 there was no change in poi. I already have a design for a quick connect to replace the strap.

Since the boss system changed group sizes by a slight move in a weight on the end of the barrel to change harmonics I can't believe that you would have the same group with and without that hanging on your barrel.

But hey I've been wrong before.

I gots one of them. Used it extensively last year and like it.

You can also download the data to a pc for a spread sheet.

I use a thick rubber band to prevent the system from creeping forward.

With a rifle cartridge, at a 100 meters, it will raise your POI by 2-3 inches higher depending.

When google sites quits acting up, I'll see if I can post some target clips with and without. Maybe you might see something I'm not. For hunting loads same same.

Got one last year and am tickled pink with it. No more light worries, having to stop fire of
others at the ranges to set up, and set up time is a few seconds rather than minutes. Its readings
are the same with the same loads as my other chronographs. Haven't used it on CF's yet, just high
performance smokeless muzzle loaders shooting sabotless which have a lot of recoil. I didn't
experience any slippage, probably due to the .800" at muzzle which would give more area to grip.
There were no problems I was often getting resulting in the ol' "Error" message on the screen. All
shots were recorded with no problems, and 310gr bullets @ 2650fps do result in plenty of recoil.

P.S. POI did shift on lighter (200 & 225gr) bullets, but there was no POI shift on 275-310gr
bullets. There was no accuracy effect in any of the groups.

You sure don't need to worry about it on my account. I would have bet a that groups would change. But, I'll sure take your word for it. My gut vs your actual. Actual wins all the time. I can't see a reason to change from my Chrony in the near future.

I only ever borrowed conventional chrony's but now have my own magnetospeed.

On most of my rifles (well all but a heavy barrel .22) it does move point of impact by varying degrees. Accuracy - I have never been able to detect a change but then I've never claimed to be able to shoot good enough other than "minute of game".

I use the magneto-speed for three functions:

- Ladder tests at 300 metres are shot over the Magneto-speed, point of impact doesn't matter a toss for these, the only limiting factor with the Magneto-speed is doing multiple rifles, changing it to take advantage of barrel cooling intervals is a pain

- At home for initial load development I fire into the ground (even though we have room enough for a range there's no safe backstop) and use the Magneto-speed to give me velocities as I work up, yes I know you can do this with a conventional chrony but the set-up to do it on an evening after dark would be considerable

- I use it at the range in the conventional way the main limitation is that you final zero-ing has to be done sans Magneto-speed, which I do find a pain in the neck with expensive or hard kicking rifle.

I now wouldn't be without mine !

I bought a cheapo $100 chrono years ago and have never been satisfied. I considered the more expensive brands (PACT, CED,etc) but the reviews stopped me. When Oheler started producing the 35P, I almost bought one when the Magnetospeed came out.

It worked perfectly the first time. Super easy set up compared to a traditional chronograph, slippage notwithstanding. The velocities are finally consistent and what I always expected from my hand loads. It was well worth the money.

It changes my point of impact at 100 yards by an inch or two and the groups open up a bit, but considering I now get consisted, reliable numbers, I only have to shoot 3-5 shots to confirm velocities, then go back to zeroing.
