MACNeed help finding brass
I just obtained an old Mannlicher Model 1903 carbine in 6.5x54 and was wondering if anyone knows a source of brass for me to work up some loads. I've been playing with a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser and just fell in love with this new carbine when I picked it up. I'd like to get it shooting ang try it out on some whitetails this winter.

Paul BraskyI'd try the Old Western Scrounger first and RWS second (Frank Barnes mentions them in his "Cartridges of the World."). Hope this helps!

bartscheI've got some sparse load data from an old Lyman book
1.120 gr.- jacketed bullet. 35.5 gr. 4895 2700ft./sec 36gr. 4064 2700ft./sec.
2.129gr.-jacketed bullet 34.5gr. 4895 2475ft./sec. 37.5gr.3031 2580ft./sec.
3.140gr.- jacketed bullet 35gr 4895 2400ft./sec. 36gr. 3031 2450ft./sec.
4.160gr- 37gr. 4064 2260ft./sec.
I use to hunt mule deer with the 6.5 Carcano which is very close to this cartridge. It'll do the job if you place the bullet.

Bren Mk1Mac, sir;
Buffalo Arms also lists 6.5x54 brass, made by Hirtenberger, at about $29.00 per 50 rounds.
My own 1903 M-S is a 24"-barreled takedown rifle.
Most of these older Mannlichers that I have seen have somewhat excessive headspace, but they can be used safely by not full-length-sizing the brass. I like to neck new brass up to .30-caliber for rifles with too much headspace, and then gradually re-size the cases until the bolt can just barely be cammed closed. If the shoulder is not disturbed (set back), the brass will last quite well.
You have a very nice piece of firearms history, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.
Regards from BruceB (aka Bren Mk1)
