Does Winchester 760 powder require a magnum primer when loading it in a 7x57 Mauser ? Cool

No. Standard CCI 200 will work fine.

You definitely do NOT need a magnum primer with this powder in a 7x57.

I use the standard Winchester WLR primer in my 7x57. Seems to do the job just fine.
According to the Winchester #15 reloading booklet, they say all the loads in the booklet were worked up with their standard primer. That was good enough for me.

When I first started reloading .308 Win., all I used for a while was W760 and standard CCI primers. Had no problems at all.

I did some chronographing one day with W-760 in an 06 and standard CCI primers most definatley produced more velocity with the same load than magnum primers. Go figure..

Wstrnhuntr,

Have observed the same thing many times -- regular primers producing more velocity than magnum primers.

Elmer Keith even wrote about this phenomena.

Still use magnum (Fed 215) primers in the 500 Nitro and 500 A-Squares.

I have heard tales of people who allegedly had hang-fires with it when using standard primers, but I have always used Federal 210's with WW 760 with no strange results at all.

I usually use magnum primers with any ball powder including this one. Yesterday I put together 40 rounds loaded with 48 grains of WW 760 under the 160 grain Speer bullet for my 7x57 fired by a CCI 250. I also use magnum primers when I am going to be hunting in very cold weather.

The primary difference in "magnum" primers and "standard" primers is the label and the price.

I have found the accuracy of my loads with this powder to be better with cci-215 vs cci-200 primers. I use almost the identical load as rickt300.

Winchester ammunition, being related to Olin who has made ball powder in the past, probably would not make or load any primers not suitable for ball powder.

Stonecreek, I pay the same for either? Not starting an argument but the only time I pay more is for the Federal Gold Medal or their ilk and I later learned my guns aren't sophisticated enough to recognize the difference.

No argument here. In most references, "magnum" primers are priced a little higher than "standard", but some retailers charge the same.
