Tumbler media recipes.
I have been using only plain old corn cob media and Cabelas polish, but wonder if I can do better.
I've read of some reloaders, mixing corn cob & walnut media 50/50 and then adding a cap of Nu Finish car polish, some cut up dryer sheets and a cup if dry rice.
Do any of you guys go to that extreme?
What mix works best you you?

craigsterI use plain old ground walnut shells. I bought a 50lb bag some years back for less than 15 bucks and I'm still using it up. I've heard of the dryer sheets and car polish, and all the
other stuff, but what's up with the dry ice?

miles58FWIW I use 2/3 corn cob media and 1/3 fine glass beads by volume. It takes just over a half hour to do a nice job. I rinse in hot water and dry in the sun after.
I suppose straight ceramic media or even fine silica sand for sand blasting would work OK too if you were careful about rinsing.
I am not thrilled with the picking corn cob media out of flash holes. but it's the tedious little things like that that are part of reloading that make it such a soothing thing to do.

33806whelenI use walnut shells I buy from petco. I put a squirt of watered down liquid polishing compound for car finish.
better than any adutive I've purchased for polishing media, and a hell of a lot cheaper.

boilerroomWithout a doubt the best combo I've ever used was crushed walnut with a few caps of Dillon Rapid Polish 290. Holy crap is it fast and the cases look like they are made from 24k gold after. A little bottle goes a long way too.
I may try the fried mice....

shootawayI prefer Hornady ONE SHOT media because it leaves my cases not oily and I don't feel I need to add anything to it.If you want the case necks looking clean too, just remove the powder residue with a steel wool before. That way you don't need to run the tumbler for long.A half hour and your done.
