A new Favorite Field Lion Bullet
James Calhoon makes a 44 grain Hollowpoint in .22 caliber that is magic on cats.I loaded some up for my .223 and went to the land fill this afternoon. These won't exit a coyote but make a real large mess out of a field lion. They have some kind of silver plating on them.Man do they expand fast.Signed "Red Cat Chunks in the Snow".

Kickback, long time no see! Welcome back to the nut house. thumb

That fella Calhoun makes some pretty fair bullets from what I've heard, never used them though. Might have to get some of those for the K-Hornet...what velocity you getting? Confused BTW, I think red goes well with white, a definite artistic synergy! Cool

I used them on my 22 Hornet when I still had it, and yeah they do wonders on cats and crows, I think I had his ''32-gr?'' I cant recall. But the best I ever used was pulled 34gr'ers from Win Supreme 22 mag, now they came apart fast.

Dan I haven't run them through the chronograph.I've been busy.I'm catless in this area and have been killing coyotes on damage control complaints. One must keep his hand in.You will like Calhoons bullets Wink

I will surely try them...other than "hornet" style bullets there has always been a void in that weight range for the .224 bore. I have a K-Hornet that will not shoot the 40 gr plastic tipped bullets over Li'l Gun, but does quite nicely with the Hornady Hornets...been hoping to hear about something like this as the Hornadys are about as good as it got for 45 grains in the past. There isn't much to bitch about at 3200 fps and .75" groupage mind you, just looking for morebetter.

That new 12ga toy from Rob and Ed should be a handy crat tool, 325gr Barnes HP at a sedate 3900fps to stop the charge, and a easy 8' (OK, it's realy closer to 10') fireball to sear in the juices/remove the hair.

TG, I been following that, and you're no doubt correct in your analysis. My humble hat is off to those two! I had a bit of PM back and forth on that with Ed and mentioned my old idea of a longish sub caliber dart in an aluminum sabot, maybe .20-.25 cal. and about 125-150 grains. I think it would warm the cockles of 120mm's heart to see that bitch go...about 5000 fps + in my estimation, maybe as high as 6K? Confused I know there wouldn't be much left to prove what you did, but any local CSI could verify the kill for our record keeping. Assuming they had enough nuts to sit on the 'Group W' bench with ya. Wink

Well anyway, I'm glad to see somebody pecking away at my idea. First started discussing back in '98-'99 with a friend up in GA., and Ed(Ed's Red) suggested a Hotchkis action for developement, but he wouldn't sell his. Frowner The difference between doing and watchin' is a matter of providence sometime...never occured to use a bolt 12 bore like Ed Hubel is doing though. I was thinking a whole lot more pressure...and brass 12 Ga. shells. They do hold a piss pot full of powder BTW! thumb Around 300 grains +/-. I feared for my shoulder...my face...and the well being of countless thousands of innocent civilians. Red Face I mentioned this to some guys at Loadyourown.com back then, they thought I was nutz. Shows to go ya that you shouldn't pay attention to the herd sometimes.

Next up on my agenda, take one of those Swarovski scopes with the laser rangefinder, and incorporate other significant telemetry info such as wind, temp., altitude, then make the crosshairs mobile in response to input. 50 yards or 2 miles, put the X on whatever you want to vaporize and exhale half way...hold it and squeeze... A man portable M1A1 if you will... Make the dart out of DU, or tungsten and I don't think hiding behind a masonry wall is going to help very much. mgun

The military tried a saboted dart from a smooth bore MaDuce, and reportedly got poor results. This link will take you to a short discussion of it, and will also link you to a "cut away" round of it. http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/f/reply.php?id=7472,7472
