Invaded
Heavy local rain fall caused a family of skunks (5) to abandon their home, and move into my backyard. The stench of 5 half-drowned skunks was incredible. I couldn't call animal control, it was raining, and they wouldn't come anyway. And someone might have reported my actions here, and well, that just couldn't happen. Besides, the cat action has been slow.
The AR15 was out, I like the folks next door. In fact, most of my Katstuff involves a single well aimed shot, and I was facing five well armed, highly motivated home invaders.
What would the guys at AR do?
Thinking quickly, I grabbed the Benelli and a handfull of #8 dove loads. Even with the turkey tube in, the shot should be stopped by my cedar fence backstop. While I was arming myself and preparing for battle, the Wife called next door so they wouldn't freak.
I had forgotten the "fling factor" of a 12 gauge. Impressive. 4 shots, 5 carcasses. With the rain, clean up wasn't too bad.
I am sure you folks would have come up with a more elegant solution, but remember, this was self defence.
Now, bring on kitty.

How could anybody fault someone for defending his home?!! I have shot a couple of skunks and regretted it when their little sphincter muscles relax and the stink oil oozes out. Now I refrain from shooting them unless they are a long ways away.

Damn man, I know some people that really deserve some new pets! Big Grin Oh well, there's always tomorrow, and one never knows what that will bring. bewildered They have a big sailboat and poor human relations skills... A nest in the setee and a itty bitty gangplank would have been perfect! And to thing of my mirth at being able to say "No" when they asked for help. roflmao

Glad you solved the problem anyway, #8 has always been one of my favorites, especially for home defense. Wink
