Claybuster,
Using a fast powder should fix the muzzle flash. Was finishing up some bluedot loads in my 22-250 just as it was getting dark the other nite and there wasn't any muzzle flash.
The talk of frangible projectiles brings to mind a conversation I had just last week. According to my source a shotshell with the case cut all around at the wad turns a regular shotshell into a frangible slug. At the time I thought this sounded like a good way of blowing up a shotgun.
But now I'm thinking .410 shells are supposed to fit in one of the 45 cal rifle chamberings. With the stronger rifle action this combination could be useful.

DigitalDanTurtle, an interesting thought indeed. Not that I'm going to do it mind you, I can't imagine using that approach with my Whistler for the reasons you state. It does however have a certain allure. Have you ever tried the bird bombs on small game?

I have actually, and must say that if confounds the lead equation greatly!

First you must use your ordinary lead, then you must time it for detonation. Closest I came to success was a rabbit at about 70 yards. If he had only zigged rather than zagged at the end...

It would have to be reevaluated if repackaged with a schrapnel cannister, and that would be a major undertaking indeed. Still, the rewards boggle the mind don't you think?

derfSomething to consider, The chamber in any firearm is much larger than it's bore. (Alarm bells ringing?) What is going to happen if you try to launch a chunk of your cartridge down the aforementioned bore. It will act like an obstruction. I don't know about you all, but I can get myself in enough trouble without deliberatly going in harms way.

claybusterThe only saving grace is that the load is'nt solid and the plastic has a good bit of give,,,letting the crimp go out.On the other hand,,I have a bitch of a time getting 7 1/2 shot to fall freely through my .410 shotshell press
