Thatch
Anyone done a grass thatch theme to cover their ceilings rather than paint them?

I have often wondered the same thing.

Your question reminded me of a post from a few months ago. The closest to thatch that I have seen.

I think it would look great, but would be concerned that it would be a dust and spider magnet.

never used thatch. however, we used coconut palm
fronds once. Worked pretty good, but, was not as thick as thatch

They do make various wall coverings of the thatch/grass type .You could cover the ceiling with that .

308Sako,

I am moving now, won't be totally moved for a week or two yet on this do-it-myself project. I am getting everything I can move myself done then bringing in the "troops" to help with my measily furniture.

Can't afford an addition for a few years after this! (I need a decent laundry room and kitchen first)

The good news is I know where the kudu will go and I decided the dining room would look good in a western North American theme. My pronghorns and bison are already in there.

clap

The living room will be African, that's why I am wondering about a thatch style ceiling. I bet there are grass type blinds that may work well as "thatch". Though some well fertilized Timothy might pass for the real thing too.

mete, what specific sources have you seen?

Spiders are everywhere, thatch or not, I am looking at one right now on the ceiling. Eeker

The bedrooms are probably going to be an "arctic" theme (I hate a warm bedroom). So the caribou, bears and winter pelts are going that direction.

As soon as moving is over I will finish building an antler chandelier for the dining room.

"Game" on! cheers

Google 'natural texture wallpaper' , 'raffia weave wallpaper' ,'grass cloth wallpaper' , 'grass wallpaper'. This type of thing has been around for many years but I understand they are more popular today than ever. Grass type blinds would work too depending on exactly what effect you want. Can you paint murals ? Smiler

Ann, I am sure this will be a labor of love for you, so enjoy and may the harder parts go easy. The thatch would be just fabulous.

For whatever reason the spiders this year were more plentiful then I ever remember in the NY house. Constant cobwebs and assorted artifacts they leave behind...
