OldHandgunHunterA New Addition
It took nearly two years to get him from his bush home to his new abode -- but, he finally made it:
He brought a little Hippo ivory with him:

I have all my my Afircan trophy taxidermy done by Life-Form Taxidermy in South Africa.
They've done several dozen trophies for me -- everything is always done perfectly; on schedule; and at reasonable cost. And, the best part is that their crating and shipping folks always build fantastic protection for the trophies such that they all arrive in perfect shape -- every time!
I'm a real fan of Life-Form.

Yes, all those Hippo teeth are from one very fine Hippo. He was a challenge for a handgunner -- in deep choppy water with lots of cows and babies at nearly 100 yards. A one-shot kill under those circumstances would have been very, very difficult even with a rifle, let alone the handgun I use. My PH's (I actually was hunting with two) laid in hot white sand (the temperature was well over 100 degrees F) for about three hours, staring into that reflective chop. My eyes were burning after ten minutes! But, in the end, I made the brain shot -- as good a shot as I've ever made I think.
We used the Hippo as Croc bait, but I baited the Leopard with a Waterbuck. Actually, I think that I took the Leopard 2-3 days before the Hippo, if memory serves.

rhrommI looked at several pictures before reading your post, and it came to life. I was clueless as to how much ivory a hippo held in those gums. Its amazing to say the least! That is an excellent presentation of the ivory, what a conversation piece.
Amazing hunt!

OldHandgunHunterYou'll find out that Leopards are a crowd favorite -- Everybody seems mesmerized by them.
And, as you already know, there are few animals that are more challenging to hunt -- or give you more satisfaction when you succeed -- than Mr. Spots.
