buffybrA few new ones
In 2006 I posted a bunch of pictures of my Trophy Room
https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/.../m/446103065?r=58510 This past year, my taxidermist came through with a few more of my mounts.
Two Central Canadian Barren Ground Caribou from my 2004 hunt with Jonah of Bekere Lake Outfitters East of Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. They're on an oak cabinet that I made.
A Black Wildebeest from my 2005 hunt in the Free State in South Africa.
A Zebra from KwaZulu Natal in 2005. Its on a cherry wood pedistal that I made.
My Cape Buffalo from the Matetsi area of Zimbabwe in 2005.
Hopefully, my taxidermist can keep them coming with one every month or so.

nomrcyVery nice!! The caribou pedestal is very unique!
Trophies are not dead animals...they are living memories.

yukon deltaI really like the caribou and zebra pedestals. Can you show more photos of them? The zebra pedestal looks like it has birdseye figure.

buffybrYukon, I'll be glad to.
Here's the Zebra where it currently lives in my living room. I'm planning on raising the ceiling in my living and dining rooms this spring to make room for last year's African critters.
A close-up of the Zebra base. It's 4/4" cherry wood that I hand picked the boards from one of our local lumber yards. I tried to pick boards with the most grain. The top is 17" wide and it's 30" high.
The Caribou base is hand picked 4/4" red oak for the top and trim boards. The top is 4/4" oak 26"x52" and it's 24" high. The panels are 1/8" oak venier plywood. The riser for the right Caribou is 10" wide x 12" high. It's 4/4" red oak over an almost solid fir center. The two front panels are doors.
I built a 2x4 and 2x6 frame then strengthened the top and the riser with full dimension 3"x9" fir. Covered the sides with 1/2" particle board and covered the top and base with 3/4" particle board. Then I covered the particle board with the oak venier plywood and the solid oak trim. I didn't scrimp on the glue, and all joints were also air nailed. It's just a little overbuilt.

yukon deltaThat's interesting work.

I hadn't noticed the center storage section on the caribou pedestal before. Just general storage or a specific purpose?

It just looked like too much space to box in. Someday I'll have something that would be just perfect to store there.

NavalukNice work. Who is your taxidermist if you don't mind me asking?

Michael RobinsonAll very beautiful, but I have to say I like those caribou the most.
Caribou, with those huge, high, palmated racks, make the most fantastic trophies, IMO.
Congrats!
Mike

buffybrThanks for the nice comments. I like working with wood. I actually got the idea of the double Caribou mount from another taxidermist's literature.
My Taxidermist is Jerry Andres in Belgrade, MT. I've known Jerry for a long time and I think he does excellent work. He's done (if I counted right) 29 mounts for me: American big game, African big game, fish, birds, shoulder mounts, and full body mounts. Please don't send anything to him to mount, he still has 20 animals of mine to finish.

When I took the Caribou base to him and we put the two Caribou on it, Jerry stepped back, smiled, and said "I like that."
mrlexma, I too like the palmated Caribou antlers. I debated a long time on shooting this one because he has weak bez's, but the palmation and long top points gave him enough points to officially qualify for B&C at 373 4/8.

Cazador humildeBeautiful mounts. Well you shouldn't have said that about please don't send anything to Andres. I'm hunting elk south of Bozeman in November. Mr. Andres salted and shipped out a cape and rack for me in '04 and your excellent post has convinced me that, if I'm fortunate enough to find a shootable bull, I'm leaving it with him for the whole job. Good luck with the remodeling and good hunting.
