opus72Room size and quantity of mounts
I started just a couple of years ago expanding my hunting horizons from birds and whitetails. At this point my trophy collection is relatively small (a couple ducks, 3 whitetails, 1 pronghorn, 1 elk, 1 life-size mtn goat, 1 life-size black bear). I've started plans for my next house and have a 23x33 area with cathedral ceiling set aside as the area for my man cave. This room will house my trophy mounts, a pool table, some furniture and a flat screen tv. Hunts coming up for me in the near term include 10 days in Zimbabwe for Cape Buffalo and various plains game. Probably not anything too big after that until 2013 for my 40th b-day.
Does anyone here have a room similar in size and setup to what I'm planning? I'd love to see photos to get some idea of what can fit in a room that size before it is uncomfortably full of critters.
Thanks for your input.

safari-lawyerMy new room is around 25 x 40. Sounds big, but it fills up quickly. Around 50 mounts will take up about 65% of my present wall space. I'll have some pics to post soon as construction is almost complete.

RickCapMy advice is to take your current plans and double them. I know it sounds crazy but you won't regret 10 or 20 years from now. I built a 20 x 20 room back in 2001 with 14 foot ceilings and thought it big enough. I am not only out of space but you cannot fully appreciate some of the mounts because certain viewing areas/perspectives get consumed by furniture, etc. Tom Julian has a great artcile in this months Safari magazine directly on this very issue. Read this article before finaling your plans.

SevensTake a look at Julian and Son's website, they have lots of photos. Some will probably be along the lines of what you're hoping to create.
I will second Rick in saying to go as big as you can possibly afford. Far easier to spend more now, then to add another addition later.

RickCapCorrection on this month's Safari magazine. The author interviewed Tom Julian. It is a great article and gives an excellent overview on key elements of a trophy room.

AndersI have a new trophy room in progress. The size is 9,5x8,5 meters, which I think is appr. 25x28 (?). The ceilings are 5,3 meters and side walls at 3,3 meters.
I do not have a lot of mounts yet (appr. 30), but I hope the size will be ok for the future.
The idea is to have some furniture in the room from the start, but I might remove something in the future as it fills up.
Equaly important as size is wall heights, IMO.
I'm going to have "professional" input on lighting and where to put mounts.
Looking forward to reading the article in Safari Magazine.
