oryx horns
[img=http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/8299/oryxhh0.jpg]
I've acquired a pair of oryx horns , I have no data for it,only know have no more of 35 year, I think they aren't southern oryx horns(Gemsbok) because they are almost parallel, but I'm not sure. they are about 32" long whit 5 6/8" bases
Can anyone recognize what subspecie they are?
A Fringe-Eared Oryx? Maybe Beisa Oryx?
thank you
Lorenzo

Mr Lorefuma, those do appear to be gemsbok horns that you have there. And I'm pretty sure that they are off of a bull! You can make some pretty nice fixtures out of those...................wapiti7

There are a few subspecies of Oryx, which the Gemsbok is one.

Some others are called Scimitar, Arabian, Besa (sp) and possibly Addax (not sure if Addax are true oryx)

It is, properly, a gemsbuck oryx.

Well I just learned something new today, I've been using Oryx and Gemsbock interchangeably.

Thanks

I was under the impression that oryx is English while Gemsbok is Afrikaans.

The Gemsbok is the Giant Oryx. This sub-species is the largest of all Oryx.

thanks anyone for the help!The ungulate expert of our natural history museum after seeing the horns think is a trophy from a Beisa Oryx (Orix beisa beisa), probably a male one.
thanks again
Lorenzo
