Mad Dog's Sonhippo taxidermy
Well I'm less than 50 days from heading to Zimbabwe with my dad. One of the top animals I'm hunting during the safari is a hippo. I would definately like to have something done, as far as taxidermy goes, but not really sure what. Aanyone have any ideas or pictures to share? Been thinking of having the tusks mounted on a shield, maybe in the shape of the continent of Africa. Just a thought. If you have any other ideas, please share, I"m open to suggestions! Thanks
Most folks have the skull bleached and have that as their trophy, either with the actual tusks in it, or replaced with synthetic tusks. Actual tusks require some maintenance to keep them from drying out and splitting. Mine is on its way back from Namibia with hide intact. I was going to do a shoulder mount, but may waffle when I get the size and price of such a mount!

Brian ClarkIf you check the taxidermy thread I have seen what you are thinking of, it turned out really cool on the shield. Good luck on your hunt, looking forward to your report.

edholumMy tusks split before they made it to the states just to give you an idea of how brittle they can become.
Sorry i can't post a picture as the trophy is at the taxidermist.I have the skull with all the teeth in it and got a shoulder mount done with the Mckenzie form that has replacement mouth and tusks! it looks fantastic with the new jaw set
