Smoker1Next question
Thank you again for all the great stuff. I have decieded to vault the ceiling. The next question is how far from the wall would be minimum. I can probably get 3' away from the wall and total hieght of 9'6". Opinions? smoker1

Jorge400I'm not really following you here. I thought it was just me not being able to understand but since no one else has replied maybe it would help if you would re-phase the question.

JPriceI think you are talking about encasing the ceiling, or boxing out a taller portion of your room 3' off the perimeter of the exterior walls. This option may be a result of the ceiling joist or more likely the roof rafters. I would try to get as much height as possible as close to the vertical walls as possible. If the roof rafters are whats causing the height restrictions you might consider cathedral. Post pics of your situation and we can try to help.

Smoker1I guess my description wasn't too clear. I have a wall that is ~ 25' long that I could vault. I could start the vault ~ 3.5' from the wall. My question is will that be enough space from the wall for a Kudu or Gemsbook shoulder mount. If this don't get it I'll take a picture. Thanks folks, want some ideas before I get into an expensive project. smoker1

Jorge400I think I know what you are talking about. I don't 3 feet out is going to help you for wall mounts. I have a soffit system around the permimeter of a large room in my basement that carries the HVAC duct work and allows me to get 9 full feet on the remainder of the area. It has a trey ceiline appearance and it extends a few feet out from the wall. While the majority of the room has 9 foot ceilings, I am bound by the soffit to hanging shoulder mounts to a lower height of the soffit. The horn tips for kudu and gemsbok will most likely be tucked back against the wall. I also have a recessed area in my 2-story family room where I have a few mounts. Even though it is only tucked back a foot or so, I still have to put my monts below the top of the recess as you can see below.
Nonetheless, a vault would likely add an openess to a room and not feel as crowded with a number of mounts.
Post up some pics of what you are describing if you can.

Smoker1Jorge400, thank you for the great pictures. The recess where you have your Kudu doesn't appear to be very deep. I'm thinking that my idea might just work. You have a very beautiful trophy room. I'm going to try to add a picture of the wall in question. Thanks again, smoker1
