Most of mine will come out with the check still on the bullet base. I use Hornaday gas checks on all cast bullets because they "crimp on" with a positive retention as a design feature.

However, if you rotate the loose check that is stuck in the neck so it is lip side out you can catch that lip with a steel scribe and pull it out of the neck with a little flicking motion. You really can do this, just be patient.

Next, when a check pulls on a full case compressed load you can get it out this way. The check is supported by the powder, so take a much smaller diameter punch and center it in the check and give it a medium tap with a hammer. You will collapse the check around the punch some, reducing its diameter.

No matter how you do it, it is a pain in the arse. Use Hornaday gas checks to minimize the issue and (good advice here, I wish I would take it for myself) simply avoid making up a whole bunch of heavy charge cast bullet loads so that when you find out they are totally inaccurate you won't have so many to go break down.

A difficult trick to perform. The best thing to do is get it right and don't have to pull them. I suspect an inertia bullet puller might work best...but still not fool proof. Anyone tried this with GC bullets? [Confused]

C'mon Pecos, doing it right the first time is too easy....

I never pull cast. Why for? Those bullets cost so little or next to nothing handmade and the powder charges ain't much otta your pocket-- so just shoot them! Plink away. Lots easier to load empty cases than pull bullets and then load.

marky123....I do have that problem occasionally.

My latest and greatest escapade was with some formed 25/35 brass that I failed to test chamber that has the dreaded base bulge.

I pulled about 20 of the little suckers. About 1/2 came out with the GC and the remainder stood fast. I succeeded in fishing out all but two with forcepts. These two hardcores eluded me. I finally took a .250" diameter rod and a small hammer and crushed the check and emptied them right out.

You better bet I learned a lesson there./beagle
