Sean's 290gr. gas checked, 35 gr. acc2015,WLRM,.270 RP cases.Compressed, crimped.Primer a little flat, a little soot, 1799 to 1804 fps!!!!!1" 5 shot grp 50 yds.

Same, with 34gr 4198 compressed & crimped,WW.270 cases, 1978 to 2020 fps.really clean but a little bit of unburned powder.1 1/4" 5 shot group at 50 yds.

Sky's 306gr. gas checked bullet, 35gr. acc2015, compressed, WLRM, crimped, Case .270RP, 1788 to 1814 fps. 1" 5 shot grp. at 50 yds.

Sky's 306 gr.gas checked, 34gr. 4198 compressed, ww.270 cases WLRM, crimped, 1955 to 1982 fps. Clean but a bit of unburned powder.2" vertical 6 shot group.

Sky's 306gr. gas checked bullet, 32.5gr. T680, WLRM, WCC84 cases, crimped, 1907 to 1915 fps bolt handle lift a little hard.Terrible group. The barrel was super hot and it might have been fouled.

Sky's 296gr bullet NO gas checks but lubed, WLRM 15gr. Blue Dot,WCC84 cases, crimped, 1335 to 1366 fps. poor grouping. Again hot barrel etc. with 14 gr. Blue Dot 1277 to 1292 fps, poor grouping.

I thought with the same loadings the .375x41 would be a skosch faster than the 9x41 because of the pressure working on the larger bullet cross sectional area. This did not happen;they were rather equal.

The rifle was a REM. 600 with a 16" barrel and no recoil pad and kicked the peediddle out of me.I fired my light weight 30-06 after and in comparison it seeed pleasant.

From some wild calculations I made for the 9x41 it appears that a significant increase in velocity could be obtained, aproaching the bullets integrity limits, with a 24" barrel.

It came as a surprise that the 680 reached over pressure before it came close to the 4198 results (velocity). Since there are only a limited amount of powders between 680 and 4198 I am dropping powder selection as the answer to achieve greater energy transfere Unless the case is increased in capacity the answer will be found in increased barrel length.

The exploration may have been futile but for me the initial discovery that a small capacity case, filled with powder and no fillers, using a large for bore gas checked bullet can achieve energy levels of cartridges twice it's size that use jacketed bullets.This was rather exciting for me.

The 1" group I shot with your 306 grainers is about as good as that rifle shoots any bullet, which up to this point have been jacketed.I just checked my records and the only group that was any better in 17 yrs. was a 220 gr. SP pushed by 17.2gr. of Blue Dot to 1580 fps. 5 shot 3/4" group at 50 yds.( No flinching with that load). roger

OK! When does the lead stop coming out of the barrel? There must be some special techniques that I'm not aware of when cleaning rifles after you shoot cast bullets. I've been cleaning since Wed. afternoon.Clue me in guys. roger

are your bullets lubed? or maybe sized too small for the barrel?

JB bore cleaner and a very tight fitting patch. Solvents designed to remove copper fouling are worthless on lead.

Some alloys are good solders and will actually solder to the barrel, especially in the corner of the groove. More JB, rub a dub dub.

Straight wheelweight usually cleans up easily because it is a poor solder.

If you have leading, you have gas blowing by the bullet. Bigger diameter, better lube.

The standby trick from the experts is to buy a "chore girl" scouring pad from the grocery store (the copper scrubber pads). Pull two or three strands out of the pad & wrap around a bronze brush. Two or three passes are supposed to do the trick! (confirmed by many who have tried it).
