Did not get a response first go around so I will try this again.
Should I clean my rifle or pistol lubrisizer? Which is best use for this lube? Of course with that new six hole C113-309 soon to be on it's way maybe it is a hint which way to go.

I think I have read it in the past, but what seems to be the upper limit of velocity with this lube?

I have a bunch of 50-50 to use up so I need to lube some bullets with it! [Wink] Guess most here would relegate that lube to pistol rounds.

Correct assumption??

LouisB, there is no need to clean out your luber. Just place the new lube on top if both are about the same consistency. Squeeze both types through your fingers and compare. If they feel the same, then one lube won't get ahead of the other at the die holes, leaving one behind. ... felix

Felix lube shoots faster and longer than 50-50, in smaller bores especially. An excellent 22 caliber lube because that is what the initial criteria was to come up with the first formula. ... felix

Received mine a couple days ago but am not sure.
Is the lube ready to use as is or do you have to remelt and add the vaseline to keep it the same consistancy???
How would the vaseline keep it dry?

Thanks
LuvSkye
04 November 2003, 02:34
felix
LS, the lube is ready to use. For uniform consistency between the tubs sent, melt them both together in the microwave and stir. If the lube seems too thick for your particular luber machine, add some vaseline, about a heaping tablespoons worth and mix that in. Repeat as many times as you feel necessary for the easy of use. ... felix

Felix got my order yesterday (and thanks to all involved who helped with the project) now to get to casting.
Felix would / could you give the ingredients and what the individual ingredients are in the mix for? Thanks for your time (and effort). k2
05 November 2003, 17:12
felix
Ingredients are 110 pounds of beeswax, 20 pounds of anhydrous lanolin, 3/4 gallon of castor oil, 1/2 of jojoba oil, 4 gallons of high grade mineral oil, 3 pounds of carnauba, 2 pounds of 200 degree micro wax, 3 whole bath bars of ivory soap, 3/4 pound Vibar #103 polymer, 3/4 pound of A-C-400 polymer. The polymers were added to assure a good mix when the lube is poured hot into a luber machine. Last, but surely not least, about 12-16 hours labor. ... felix

correction: 1/2 plus gallon of jojoba oil

Turbo
Felix, It's interesting that you used Ivory Soap rather than Sodium Stearate. In your opinion, is it just as good or better? Turbo
05 November 2003, 17:47
felix
Turbo, sodium stearate is better because the other consituents are left over from making ivory soap. Each lot of ivory is different and therefore cannot be trusted. This ivory lot was used in advance of the big melt to assure it is good enough to use. All sodium stearates are not the same either, but the chances are better if lab grade sodium stearate is used every time. Technical stearates (that kind we can afford) are made from animals one day, and veggies the next, and are supplier dependent, just like ivory soap. In other words, if the cost is right, it should be tried. The "impurities" will get ya' every time. The only time impurities are welcomed are those which are customary in unrefined beeswax. We couldn't find the amount of beeswax required in that grade, so we got the cosmetic grade instead. ... felix

A heafty tablespoon of lanolin or vaseline, or 50-50 of both, will soften a 2 tub package quite nicely. Repeat as necessary. I have done it to several tubs already, making the lube for a couple of orders I know who like REAL soft lube. ... felix

No cooking required. Just melt the new stuff in and stir for 5 minutes until all cloudiness is gone. Turn up heat just a little if you have to. ... felix

I have lots of lanolin left over, so all of you folks that think the lube is too hard as being mailed, please indicate now and I will start adding some raw lanolin to the package which will save the future folks a trip to the drug store. I have about 30-40 mailings to go. ... felix

After it warmed up to room temp, I gave it the calibrated thumb test. It appears to be very similar in hardness to the 50/50 commercial lube I have been using. Mrs. Fourarmed saw me gauging the volume of her pyrex measuring cups and went out and bought me a BRAND SPANKING NEW 4-cup one. Who says shooting doesn't bring families together? Thanks Felix. Now if I can just remember her birthday, all will be well.

The good stuff arrived today and my thanks to the two great guys who did it. I nuked each tub in a pasta sause jar (The are made by Mason, graduated and take heat like a champ). When throughly cool, I will compare it my my own lube with a highly scientific thumbnail and mash between the fingeres test for hardness. It if is close, I will leave it alone for the time being and shoot some boolits. Thanks again guys.

Felix/Sundog: Youse guys are the GREATEST!!! My PriMail Flat-Rate pkg of "fwuffle" arrived today in fine shape. Now I gotta finish setting up my new casting and reloading benches, and boil out the nice Ideal No. 1 lube-sizer I just got from another one of the "brethren" and get to it (round type!) The "stale" check I was fretting about also cleared on today's bank statement. Thanks a billion! floodgate

I got it! I got it! I got it! Thank you Felix and Sundog. Unlike others, I'll probably empty my lubesizer the one bullet at a time method, but I may have enough bullets on hand to empty it. I hope so.

I got mine too! Can't wait to try it out. Consistancy-wise, it looks like it'll be fine for Florida shooting. But it smells like sheep [Wink]
One of my tubs has a big "2" scribed into it. Any significance to that?

felix
LC, the number 2 means a reference to the level in the big pot. We marked the pot to make sure you got lube from the top and at the bottom of the pot. It is just too hard to assure complete mixing when you got that much lube in one giant pot. One of us was mixing, and another was pouring until our arms fell off. That's why you should mix the two tubs together as a precaution. In reality, there should be no practical difference between the two tubs. ... felix
