lobogaWhats the best way to lube muzzleloader bullets?
I just started casting my own .54 caliber muzzloader bullets, Lyman Great Plains and Lee REAL bullets and I ran out of interest very fast on just wiping lube into the grooves with my fingers, it works, sorta, but there has to be a better way?

Lamarlook up pan lubing.
it's basically a stiffer lube poured around a pan full of stood up boolits.
then you use a cut off fired case to push the boolits through.
you push the cutter over the boolits in the pan.
then you put more boolits in the pan [in the holes left by the others] and re-melt the lube letting it cool again.
or you just melt the lube in a cup and dip in the boolit to the depth you want and stand them up and push the cutter over them.

MarkWhen I'm hunting I just have a few bullets lubed with grease or crisco and I keep them in a 35mm film can.

bfrshooterSetting up to pan lube and making a cake cutter takes longer then just using your fingers.

buckeyeshooterI put the Lee lube in a freezer bag, add bullets and lightly shake, then remove.

Idaho Sharpshooterbfrshooter,
just let the lube harden and push them out. If you only pour enough lube to cover all grease grooves it's easy.
Loboga,
just buy a double boiler at the store ($8-10), melt your lube in it (50-50 beeswax and tallow works great), stand the bullets up in a pan, and pour enough lube to cover all grooves. I keep my lube in the DB, and just break up the hardened cake of lube and stick it in the pan.
It's what I do with all of mine.

lobogaI'm not sure how you are saying to get the bullets out of the pan after the lube has hardened?

Idaho Sharpshooterloboga,
just let the pan of lubed bullets sit on the counter until the lube solidifies, generally two hours or so, then invert the pan over a towel folded twice to cushion them and tap the pan or drop it on the towel to release the solidified lube/bullet cake. Take the cake and push the bullets out with a pencil or dowel. Resist the temptation to put it in the refrigeration; it will cause the lube to come off the grooves. After the time involved in casting and culling and weighing them; I store all of my cast bullets in the 50 or 100 round plastic hinged lid pistol boxes. It keeps the lube from coming off. The nice thing is that the boxes come in all sizes and they stack very nicely.
