I have begun casting, and it's going well.
After some more help by Slowpoke I have started casting.

My best bullets so far have came from melted #9 magnum lead shot. They are nearly perfect. I also have the Lube-A-Matic set perfectly.

My first loads are 10 grains of Unique under a cotton ball filler, and a 405 grain cast bullet from a Lee mold. They are going 900-1000 fps, and the other day I get several groups around an inch at 100 yards with them. I was concerned about how well they would shoot, but I was impressed. Water bottles at 100 yards were easy. I must say I am addicted, I have 100 more bullets ready to shoot. It's something when it's only 10 cents a round to shoot 45-70! Hopefully I can get a collar button mold, and bullets will only be about 2 cents each.

Thanks everyone!

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

That's great! Just keep an eye on that cotton ball filler. I only once got some of it to scourch but some folks have actually started grass fires with it. Not sure what it takes to make it burn. Personally, I like cotton. It sure cleans the bore! (I have a suspicion that powder granules make their way into the cotton and set it alight that way. But that's only a suspicion.

Now that you're casting and shooting lead bullets, it's time you started recycling that spent lead by building a bullet trap. Then you use it over and over and over...

Isn't that target a little close there onefunzr2?

And does your wife normally let you shoot in the garage?

I'm jealous...

Now that's a good idea! Would you be so kind as to supply the design details?

Look at the animated GIF at the top of their heading... Savage Snail Traps I thought it was a good concept, but nothing they offered suited my needs.

I got some 3\16" steel sheet and 1" thick pipe and welded it together. The pic was taken after I painted it and screwed on the homosote target frame. It's one of a kind...so no engineer stamped drawings are available. Use your own ingenuity.
