.45-70 paper patched
Just finished shooting some 312 grain paper patched boolits in my B-78 .45-70. Boolits were made from plumbers lead which is as close to pure as I have. I used 45 grains of IMR-4198 to boost them along at 1845 fps and got groups of 1.5",1.7" and 2.7". The last group was probably my fault because that steel crescent butt plate had my attention by then. [Eek!]
I also fired a couple of groups to differentiate between IMR and H brands of 4198. With 49 grains the IMR velocity was 1966 fps and the Hodgdon 1909 fps. Accuracy held at 2.8" at 100 yards for H-4198, but IMR went larger for some reason. Maybe that butt plate again [Big Grin] . All in all, typical minute of deer accuracy.-JDL

Careful, those things can be addicting.

Now try it with normal sized bullets and some black powder. You will like it a lot more. And, with a good blunt nose, you have a hell of a hunting round
