bulletcasterhunting with cast bullets
Hi from Germany.
I'm hunting for some time now with cast bullets in my 45/70 buffalo classic rifle. Until now I used smokeless powders with good results but now I got my hands on some Triple Seven FFG. Shooting that stuff is really fun but are these loads(60 grs. with a 450gr. slug )really enough to hunt with?
Until now I was used to some hotter loads.

Paul HWhat are you hunting?
There aren't many animals that will keep a 450 gr cast bullet inside of them, even when launched at BP velocities, which are pretty much on par with the 475 Linebaugh revolvers, and folks are happy with them.

bulletcasterI usually hunt wild-boar in the woods with the 45-70. Normally shooting ranges are from 45 to 100 yards.

reverenddanSounds like pork chops for dinner!

There isn't a pig alive that won't succumb to a 45/70 cast bullet at B.P. velocities. You do need to keep in mind that fine smelling cloud of smoke when considering a quick follow up shot. Things can get pretty interesting hunting pigs as I am sure you well know.
