NewtireLyman 311316 HP in .30-30
Hi gang,
Needed to free up some cases so went to the range this am with my son. Got a couple of new moulds off of E-bay & just had to try out some various .30-30 loads. Used 10.5gr. BlueDot & these things shoot to same point of impact as Lee 113RF. @50yds. Best accuracy of day goes to Lyman 311041 with 31.5 gr. Win. 748 water-dropped wheelweights, sized .311". It is sure fun!

FarmerI just picked up a Lyman 311316 mold that says it's for 32/20. Even though the bullets drop from the mold at .3145" cast from wheel weights,I thought I could run them thru my .309" Star sizer to use in my 30/30.I had to drive 3 out of 10 bullets out of the sizer with a brass punch and hammer.I could probably get them to go thru a .311" sizer.
Is it common to size cast bullets at .311" for a 30/30?

Dunno about being common-- but if the loaded neck dia is safe your fine. I have never seen a 30/30 loaded with 311 or even 312 bullets at the base that were not safe, BUTT-- make sure to check that clearance as each gun is different.

Sky C.Howdy Farmer-
That 311316 mould of yours - would you be willing to consider a swap for one that drops bullets closer to your 'size to' dia.?
I have just got a double cavity of that same 311316 mould and its bullets drop .3095" to .310" range in WW. This mould is in like new condition. Thing is - I'm trying to feed a .32-20 and want to size to .313". Sounds like we may each be better off with the other guys mould.
If your mould is in like condition and your interested - let me know.
Best regards-
Sky C.
