Re: Unique and chamber rings
my favorite load in the 45-70 is 18 grains of Unique(no filler) and a 300 grain Remington hollow point for about 1,450 in a Ruger #1S.I have shot close to 3,000 rounds of this load with absolutely no problems what so ever. I think the problem would be more likely with a filler but since I have never used a filler I don't know for sure.

Hi;
I just read on the cb-l that Unique causes rings in rifle chambers, no wads, and that Shiloh and Ruger are aware of this. Is anybody out there aware of this? I use a lot of Unique in my Sharps.Thanks;joe b.

This has been thoroughly discussed on forums like this and the single-shot boards. Concensus is that a filler, when placed only against the powder (not filling the entire airspace) becomes a projectile that hits the base of the bullet causing the deposit and hence the ringing - just beyond the mouth of the cartridge. Conclusion of some is to fill entire volume with a LITTLE light/fluffy filler or to leave some air space above powder with the filler close to the bullet. Others avoid fillers entirely.

Pecos45 posted it awhile back. I found it a bit troubling at the time, and now wonder if perhaps all three of us weren't hitched to the same wench at one time or another.

I keep it as a reminder that you should never let ANYBODY know where your goats are tied up.
