bfrshooterRe: lead and oak
Dave, once a boolit goes in so far and loses velocity it is not real dangerous. The bad thing would be if there was a real hard knot just under the surface that can turn a boolit. Thats what was in the fence post the guy shot. I have also seen rocks grown into trees. Nasty thing did in my saw. It's a once in a million thing, I just feel safer from behind a tree. I shoot a lot of steel too and have been hit in the chin with a piece of lead from 50 yds. It stuck in me. Now I make sure my steel is swinging or angled or falls down.

felixHope nobody thinks I am not stretching the truth a little, but I really did snatch a cupro-nickel Krag boolit out of the air on its return path from a tree. Pat, my wife, was shooting about 1600 fps at a tacked on paper target about 50 yards away. I was off at a 60 degree angle between Pat and the tree, say about 20 yards off of the line of sight. Yes, the bullet was too hot to hold for more than a fraction of a second. ... felix
