A year ago I ordered a 600 grains Mould from Mountain Mould inc. , for my 500 S&W, May be, all of you are starting to think that Im a kind sort of Handgun masoquist ....may be .I used w-w- alloy hardened (WQ), anneling cooper gas-check and lyman orange lube, size to 12,70 mm (.50") in front of a Large rifle primer and 35 grains of W-W 296 powder.

What about the velocity= 1350 fps= Pain , about the recoil=PAINNNNNN , about the accuracy 2" at 25 yards with boths eyes closed!!! , finally it broked a nice hogue cocobolo grip , surely "it" wanted to do the same with my wrist , so I changed to a local powder
(litle fast) and stayed at 1000 fps with a 4 shot in a hole a 25 yards with iron.

Only 600gr? You should have gone with the 700grainer. Here's some of what I've put through my 500's. I own five different models. The 700gr slug is standing in the far right corner. The largest slug I know of is the John Ross design, which is the original big bore, and it weighs in at 725gr.

I've never actually felt any wrist pain and I've pushed 300gr slugs over 2200pfs and 700gr slugs at almost 1400fps.

The only time I encountered pain is when I shot the 700gr slugs out of my 2 3/4" ES Alaskan snubby Don't ask why, I guess I just needed to find out for myself When the first shot ran out ALL of the fingers on my shooting hand felt immediate pain and I think I broke a blood vessel in my trigger finger. They all stung like hell and my trigger finger almost went numb! I'm assuming it was from the recoil impulse slaming into them. Anyway I did manage to fire all five of them before quitting.

Do you guys wear wrist braces?

Guillermo, I'm 50yrs old and have been shooting big bore handguns for about 30yrs.

I don't wear a wrist brace but I do use shooting gloves and my bones are already reminding me

What impresses me is all of those guys shooting the big bore rifles. My shoulder just doesn't like the punishment anymore (never really did). I've got a Rem 700 Safari Grade I haven't shot in about 20yrs. I don't even like shooting a 12ga slug. I guess that's why I stick to my handguns.

Me neither (I have a 416 Rigby and a 458 Lott), but is the only way to stop a huge animal at charge !!! otherwise you must use muzzlebreaks and when the time passed... you will be unable to hear, unless you were using ears mufflers old the time! during the hunt - Not practical !!! ) and mercury recoil reducers

I changed to a Semi-automatic, but in this case you have to use eyes protection to keep aways fron the eyes the hot burning particules and gases that out from the chamber when the shotgun eyect the shell, whith front wind most (A friend of mine (Shotgun Marksman) have a lot miscroscopic injuries (ulcer) at his eyes (corneas) for not use eye protection, and he know the bads news with a occasional eye doctor visit.

Regarding "the man age" Im wondering how the Rolling Stones (All passed the 60 years) are in good shape besides undreds R&R trips plenty of drugs, alcohols, sex partys, I think the key is the excercise, they are all the time jumping in the scene and can afford the best medical attention in the world !!!
