Solder contents
Lead and lead alloys are just falling into my garage these days. Today at a yard sale (for about a dollar) I got half a pig of linotype and 3 blocks of lead/tin solder - at least that's what the gent told me they were. There's no identifying marks on them at all. They are about 2x2x5 inches each. Should I try to calculate the specific gravity of them, use a hardness tester, flame test, taste test, or what? Any ideas? I'm thinking of just assuming that they are 50/50 lead/tin and casting them into 500 grain bullets (as a convenient size) and using them in combination with the wheelweights I found the other week. Could there be anything in them that I'd want to avoid? Thanks, Stan

Stan, if you're making perfect, pretty, shiny boolits with that alloy, I'd say you found a treasure trove of tin. (Even though I have to admit I don't really know what a "trove" is.)

If it casts well by itself, the alloy will do wonders for your WWs.
